My Counselling Approach

My foundation theory is built on a Person-Centred approach. This means that I prioritise your unique experience, creating a safe space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings without judgement. i will listen and reflect back your emotions to help you gain insight and self-understanding. Importantly, I believe you have the strength and capacity to self-heal through our therapeutic relationship. I use my integration to blend evidence-based theory and skills as appropriate, to meet your specific needs. I will always discuss a way of working with you or introducing a therapeutic tool, such as a grounding technique using the evidence based, polyvagal theory.

We all experience difficult seasons in our lives need and need support to help us to make sense of what’s going on. It is not easy reaching out but trying to manage on our own can feel very lonely. It takes courage to ask for help.

My personal experience of counselling was feeling heard, understood and not judged. I felt able to trust and be honest about my feelings which enabled me to be vulnerable but feel safe. Gradually, I felt able to process my past trauma and let go of some uncomfortable feelings. I began to learn about the importance of my emotional needs.

Understanding my autonomic nervous system through Polyvagal theory has given me practical tools to track and regulate my emotions in response to everyday challenges.

Many of my clients have found this incredibly useful too in understanding themselves. This also encourages a sense of self-compassion, embracing the balance of personal and professional boundaries.

Perhaps you have experienced the sudden loss of a loved one through illness/accident and struggling to grieve a previous loss or cope with a bereavement?

Perhaps you are going through a divorce, separation or loss of a job through redundancy or retirement?

Have your circumstances changed - struggling to settle in a new place/country or living/working in an unfamiliar surroundings?

Are you experiencing loneliness, sadness and feeling depressed?

Do your feel afraid to go to places or meet certain people because of a potential panic attack?

Are you feeling trapped in an addiction cycle?

Are you experiencing anxiety which is affecting your relationships, work, college and other areas of your life?

Perhaps you are feeling overwhelmed by daily life, coping with stress and feeling isolated, burnt out and finding it hard to enjoy life?

Or you may be feeling stuck with negative thoughts or a pattern of behaviour that feels out of control?

Here are some common challenges I can help you with:

Loss and Grief

Coping with bereavement, miscarriage, or loss of a loved one.

Life Transitions

Adjusting to changes like relocation, redundancy, or retirement.

Emotional Challenges

Managing feelings of depression, anxiety, or burnout.

Trauma

Working through past events and finding a way to heal.

Addictive Behaviours

Breaking negative cycles and finding healthier coping mechanisms.

Conflicting emotions can leave us feeling overwhelmed and uncomfortable. In our attempt to control the discomfort, we can default to a pattern of negative behaviour which then controls us. Trying to stop or change can be very difficult without support. Family and friends often like to tell us what to do, offer advice but this can be unhelpful....This is when a counsellor can provide you with a confidential space to listen and offer you support and understanding through the therapeutic relationship.

My personal experience of counselling was feeling heard, understood and not judged. I felt able to trust and be honest about my feelings which enabled me to be vulnerable but safe. Gradually, I felt able to process my trauma and address some uncomfortable feelings. Gradually I felt able to let it go. This brought me a new sense of freedom and happiness.

Why Professional Counselling?

This is why I believe so passionately of why professional counselling is beneficial for anyone going through season of difficulty. Reaching out takes courage...

I will provide you with the same safe, non-judgemental and confidential space. My understanding of what you bring to counselling is important so I will always ensure that you feel heard.

Our therapeutic relationship is a journey, working together to explore your challenges. This process will enable you to gain fresh insights into patterns from the past which may be affecting your current situation. Discovering and focusing your emotional needs will bring you a greater sense of what is important for you, bringing balance and healing. This is a cornerstone to personal growth, embracing your true authentic as well as meeting your desired outcome of therapy.

This therapeutic process will enhance all areas of your life. You will build a stronger foundation of emotional resilience, enabling you to support yourself and feel better equipped to manage other challenges throughout your life.

My hope for you…. is that your counselling experience will be a therapeutic investment for the future….
